Hot weather tweaks Lyme! What I mean by that is that Lyme really makes you feel the heat and humidity . Heat messes with Lyme symptoms. Today was one of those hot, hot days. The mercury rose to near 100 degrees. This kind of weather encourages us to bow to a force greater than we are the weather. Modify our behavior or suffer the consequences.
When healing from Lyme, the weather is one of those things you don’t take for granted anymore. You feel the weather and change of weather in your body in a new way. It is super important when recovering from Lyme disease to help your body stay comfortable in temperature extremes.
Some of the Lyme symptoms feel more intense in the cold and damp others when it warms up. Heat sensitive Symptoms of Lyme disease can include rashes, itchy eyes, fatigue, thermostat regulation problems and or hot flashes. All of these symptoms can become and feel much worse in the heat of summer.
What to do? Here are some ideas to chill out when hot weather tweaks Lyme symptoms.
- Rose Water – Sprits your face or rash with rose water.
- Spray with your eyes closed if you are spraying your face. Rose is cooling and soothing for the skin. It can help with a rash or hot flash and smells fabulous. Only use Good quality rose products. Never spray on open sores or infections.
- Lavender & Chamomile tea break
- Brew the tea with 2 bags. Remove the bags to a clean plate then allow them to fully cool. Squeeze them out so they are damp, but not dripping. Bring them into the bedroom. Lie down and place a bag on each closed eye. Rest for 10 minutes. This will so help the itchy eye thing and cool down eye inflammation and give you relaxation time to help with the fatigue.
- Cool lime water.
- Each morning slice a lime and place the slices into a pitcher or jar of water. Lime is cooling and alkalizing. Sip lime water over the course of the day to stay cool and hydrated
- Exercise indoors in air conditioning. Work out with less intensity, so you don’t overheat.
- Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day. This is especially important if you are on antibiotics, medicines or herbs that are photosensitizers. You need a bad sunburn like a whole in the head.
- Add green vegetables to your diet, like cucumber, zucchini and celery and asparagus.
- Lay off the spicy foods, nuts, chocolate and kombucha.
When hot weather tweaks Lyme it is important to address issues as they come up. You need to feel at ease rather than uncomfortable or miserable. Feeling good can only help you heal. This is so interesting; a good friend of mine is suffering today because of the heat. But my body feels much better in heat. I like lying on hot pavement on a hot day. We are all different, apparently!
I am glad you like the heat. It is true we are all different. Do you find you are more sensitive to weather changes since Lyme. I certainly am. I feel the effects of extreme heat and cold.
