What do you do to manage Lyme pain? Pain can be close company during the discovery, treatment and healing phases of Lyme Disease. I have had pain in parts of my body that amazed me. It made me cranky and exhausted. Simple things like holding a phone or driving were not a possibility. Vibration was excruciating. Pain Management hit the top of my to do list.
This is the intro blog of a series to explore the role self care in Lyme pain.
In the years before accurate diagnosis pain was my constant companion. . Every day was filled with pain in new and different places. Frustration and tears were common. I was an N-said junky. I was popping way over the recommended limit. This is a really bad idea.
I shredded my stomach and had some side effects. My doctor told me I had swallowed my n-said limit for this lifetime and should never take anymore ever again. Occasionally I would resort to prescribed narcotics for pain, but only as a last resort. They key for me, as for most people is to alleviate pain without tipping into lala land.
What are your pain points? Is your Lyme pain constant or intermittent? On a scale of 1 to 10 how intense is it? How do you deal with pain? 6 or above constantly, way past time for a multi pronged approach.
Check in with your health care team to get effective pain management support. Tell the truth about how much and how often you hurt. Take their suggestions and actively add what you can to kiss pain goodbye.
