We were designed for movement, flow and variety. In the 21st century most of our lives and jobs don’t support healthy movement for our heart, muscles, bones and joints.   For health throughout our life we need to build movement into each day. I consider regular movement a cornerstone of my wellness program, I prioritize time and space to move each day.  Regular Foot Care really helps me keep moving.  My favorite forms of movement are in nature. I get a sense of balance and peace from walking in nature.

Winter Outdoor Activity

It is easy to get outdoors in New England in summer and fall, but spring and winter can be less accessible. Outside walking in winter is an activity to take advantage of when the weather cooperates. It has been a winter with light snow so far which made  it easy for me to get outdoors and walk. Outdoor activity adds variety to the routine of going to the gym, yoga or pilates studio. We have a bunch of trails near enough to use regularly. I bundle up and head out with my husband and get in nature and soak up the calm earth energy of winter.

Take care of your feet to support moving with ease and joy. Foot care is part of what I do before I go to bed to relax and review my day. It is especially important after walking in the cold in stiff boots.

I started to do this  as part of my yoga practice.  Here is a great link on yoga and footcare. I got really earnest about self care for my feet shortly after I developed plantar fasciitis  and circulation problems.  I was diagnosed with chilblains. Here is a link that describe what chilblains are.   My circulation is much improved now because of the changes I made to my life. I keep the habits that serve and help me stay well.

Do You have good foot care habits? Roll out  and massage your feet. You can use a tennis ball or a dog toy or a specialized device.

My Selfcare For My Feet

Foot Roller

I use this marvelous red roller that I got from Natural Health and Wellness of New England. Roll each foot 10 times or so morning and evening. You can easily use a tennis ball to do the same thing. My cats steal the tennis balls for play toys, so I graduated to the red roller. I think they are a little afraid of it so they leave it alone.

Evening Foot Rub

Before I go to bed I often rub my feet with coconut oil and tuck them into socks for sleeping. It stimulates the circulation and keeps them warm while I sleep.  Reflexology says foot rolling and foot massage will help healing through a number of mechanisms. I know I enjoy it, it cut my circulation issues and plantar fasciitis issues way down. It is an easy way to show the love. That is more than enough reason for me to take the time.

Try a foot roll & rub after a long walk or just a long day.
