Why do I focus so much on Lyme & Self Care?
I talk about this stuff all the time, because it can really help you feel well while you get better. I used self care to help me feel better faster. I know the power of self care for the well and those out of balance from my study of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda is an ancient science of wellness and sister science of yoga. Ayurveda is used all over the world today. Ayurveda can be used with western or functional medicine in an integrated way to add value.
We have amazing power to influence how we feel by what we think, feel, eat and do. Many people both well and sick don’t tap into this power. Anyone dealing with an illness can really benefit from self care.
Lyme disease is tough. It is a smart or community of smart organisms, (borellia, bartonella, babesia, erlichia, anaplasma and others) who want to live rent free in your body. Borellia escape varying levels of detection and elimination from the immune system in the body using both their ability hide to change form and turn your body’s defense system against itself.
Like many bad tenants the Lyme disease community wants way too many resources and is destructive to the place they live. They use and trigger hormonal cycles and inflammatory pathways to protect themselves, this reeks havoc in your body. Treatment for a long term infection of one or more of these organisms is rigorous and may take years to bring under control. The recovery is not necessarily a straight path.
It is crucial to take really good, I mean really good care of yourself and build strength in your body to feel as well as possible during treatment. Tweet your favorite Lyme & self care option, the one that helps the most. Share on X
By the time I was diagnosed with Lyme, I was really sick in a lot of pain. My hair was falling out, I couldn’t walk 1/4 of a mile. I couldn’t even sit up and hold the phone. I needed all the support I could get. I realized Lyme & Self Care was an incredibly helpful pairing. I nurtured and nourished to help me heal. My self care practice started really small, because it was all I could manage.
Basic Mind Body Spirit Self Care helps!
Work with your health care team to bring self care in as an overall part of your strategy.
- Meditation, Intention and Attitudinal work, frees the mind to focus on healing. Stress and depression inhibit healing. I used Cd’s from Peggy Huddleston and John Kabat Zin
- Exercise at whatever level is possible, keeps your body stronger and more flexible than it might otherwise be.
- Exercise to move lymph in your body and help clear detox pathways as you body fights this illness.
- Whole High Nutrient Density Eating gives the body the basic raw materials it needs to do consistent repair. The Lyme Inflammation diet is the plan I started with.
- Add Lots of Green Vegetables
- Add Berries
- Probiotic foods and supplements to rebuild gut health
- Supplements if you can’t digest and assimilate enough nutrients.
- Reduce or eliminate inflammatory foods
- Gluten, Dairy, Eggs, GM foods, Sugar
- Add spice to your foods to help your digestion and lower inflammation.
- Turmeric
- Ginger
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Garlic
- Hot Epsom salt baths
- Relax for better sleep
- Reduce aches and pains
- Relaxes Muscles for a better sleep.
- Get Enough Sleep
- Prioritize consistently going to bed early.
Add self care to your day, tailor it to address the specific needs of your symptoms and your life. Simple self care practices have a high return on investment during your journey of learning and healing with Lyme disease.
