Lyme triggers self doubt even fear.  Every day you wake up and you don’t know how you are going to feel. Some days are okay  and on other days you have a new mysterious symptoms. You can’t tell if it is going to come and go or become something really serious.  You ask yourself ” Is my body calling it quits and betraying me .  It is easy to get angry with your body and just disengage.

It reminds me of a line from the Pink song –“I don’t want to be my friend no more, I want to be somebody else.”

Sometimes when you want to cut ties with your body you need to plug back in. Figure out what is driving a wedge between you and your body.  For me it is often fear. Lyme and actually autoimmunity in general really drives me to look at and learn from fear.

Face the fear and go into connection.   Befriend the body that is defending you against an strong foe and work to help it.

What do I mean by that?

Reach out to your health care team.  Start listening to their help.  I will use me as an example.  After 2 months of liver cleansing, I started to have a lot of neurological symptoms.  For some reason these bother me way more than pain, I think its because my mom had MS and became quite disabled over the course of her life.

Anyway, I was afraid and when scared I disconnect. I can go into victim mode and this helps no one. So I went on with these symptoms for two weeks.  Finally I went to the doctor and asked for help.  He said, toxins being released from your liver are causing havoc and put me on zeolite and bentonite clay to help move the toxins out of my body. The next day it is like a miracle occurred.  The brain fog and physical symptoms cleared.

Now normally I would not need the doctor to tell me what to do for something like this, I would just confirm what happened and what I did in an email or on the phone.   But in this case I stopped engaging and thinking because I was afraid.  I am grateful for my health care team’s support.  I got a big lesson to pay attention when I see myself in fear.  Fear needs to be a signal for me to connect and engage.

5 Steps to Face Lyme Fear

  1. Meditate – Mindfulness gets you the space you need to think rather than react.
  2. Reach out –   Talk to your partner, your friend, your health care team.  When you isolate in fear the mind chatter gets louder and louder. and fear escalates.
  3. Accept – Start some self talk to quiet the mind chatter and steer a new path. I forgive myself for jumping into fear.  I forgive myself for believing life isn’t safe.
  4. Process- the fear out of your body – Use EFT, breathing, mindfulness and movement to help.
  5. Focus – Shift your attention to the positive and take the long view.
