Going to a Massage therapist is fabulous to relax. Many people keep their massage therapist on speed dial, or the modern equivalent. For me a therapeutic massage is a rare treat. Rub your skin with self massage, it works the same way, as other forms of therapeutic massage relaxing muscles, moving lymph and moving you into parasympathetic nervous system state. (Happy relaxed and healing)
“Rub your skin with oil everyday” is taught in Ayurveda as part of daily practice. Just like you get up and brush your teeth you care for your skin with oil. It is a life changing self care practice. Keep reading this blog out to get more comfortable if you are a newbie to self massage.
You can do self massage on a regular basis to help ease the aches and pains of Lyme disease. You can rub your skin with oil from top to bottom or anything in between and soothe tired muscles. Rub your skin everyday, relax, move lymph and help sleep.
Easy Intro’s To Self Massage
Cupping
No oil required for this one, which makes it super easy. Cupping is a technique to focus warmth and energy on the eyes. Rub your hands together to warm them. Place the heel of your right hand on the ridge of your cheek bone and your finger tips on your forehead. Repeat this on with your left hand and left cheek. Tuck your index fingers close to your nose. Allow your index and middle fingers from each hand to touch. Create two little warm cave for your eyes to rest from the lights and stress of the day. 7 minutes with breathing can really relax you.
Head Massage
Once a week or so, Rub your head and hair with organic food grade oil. Massage from the edges of your scalp towards the center. Rub your skin with oil along your hairline. I use coconut into my scalp and hair before bead. This is deeply relaxing detoxifying and nourishing for your skin and hair. Wrap your head in an old scarf and go to sleep. You can use a little oil or a lot, for me less oil means less mess.
Foot Massage
Massage your own feet or your kids feet or your partners feet. This is a perfect activity to wind down before bed. You need a towel, clean socks and some warm oil. Sit together review the days and take turns massaging each others feet. For some additional information. Click this link.
Full Body Massage
Full Body Massage is an expansion of foot massage to the whole body. You always want to massage to support good lymph flow. Start to massage away from the core of the body and work towards it. This supports moving lymph to organs that clean and detoxify it. With Lyme disease never massage on rashes or active sores. Here is a you tube video that goes over Abyanga in detail.
Oil massage can be a little tough to work into your daily routine. You need 10 to 30 minutes and it can be a little messy. The video has some useful tips on how to manage the mess. This link does too. It is so worth getting organized to garner the benefits of oil massage. Start slowly with the easy options and begin to feel the benefits. Let that move you to a more regular practice.
All of these techniques can help you feel better after a long days work or while you recover from Lyme disease. Try some and let me know how they work for you in the comments below.
